When Jacqui and I chose to relocate to Crewe, we didn’t really know how wonderful the local residents would turn out to be. We had an indication when we saw how the local community rallied around after the Beechmere fire and that was further borne out earlier this year when we raised funds to buy Martin from the Sunshine Street Food Company a new car to tow his food truck.
We’ve seen it ourselves as you all kept us going through the lockdowns by taking local deliveries. We certainly would not be here now if it weren’t for you. We’ve always tried to give back to the community, whether it’s by supporting local artists by using the middle unit as a gallery or encouraging aspiring local musicians by putting on open mic nights.
Yesterday, we had a private party in the middle unit, a crafternoon and bottle share in the main bar and we welcomed Crewe Alexandra Ladies FC in our Marqueebo as they came in to celebrate their 9-0 win over Wigan.
Now we’ve come up with a scheme to support a couple of local businesses, one well established and the other only recently opened. We trialled Bangers and Buns at the weekend. The sausages came from Stuart Palin in West Street and bread from Crewe Bakeshop. They sold out much more quickly than we expected on Friday and we ordered double for Saturday and they sold out too. We’ll be continuing with these on Fridays and Saturdays when we don’t have a food vendor onsite, because we want to support those local businesses too.
