Well summer, such that it was is pretty much over so Jacqui and I have turned our attention to our winter opening hours and we have some good news to report.

Wednesday openings are staying for the time being. We weren’t sure if it’d be financially viable to continue but, actually, we’ve got quite a few regular customers who are dropping their kids off at the street dance classes or the athletics track and coming in to support us so, while we recognise it is a not a day where we can really afford staff, it is absolutely worth staying open.

Surprisingly, Sundays are going the other way so we’re reverting to our usual winter hours of 3-8pm with the caveat that we’ll stay open later if it is busy. Everything else remains the same.

Weds 4-8pm (later if busy)

Thurs 4-10pm (later if busy)

Fri 4-11pm

Sat 2-11pm (noon if the Alex are at home).

Sunday 3-8pm (later if busy)

Those of you who monitor our socials closely will notice we have sponsored the Crewe Alex Women captain, Jess Sheridan. Those of you who know me (Sean) know that I’ve been going to see the Alex Women’s team play for a few years now. Last year Jacqui and I went all the way to Newcastle to watch them play in the FA Cup. The fact that we were drinking beers in one of the very best pubs in the country (the Free Trade Inn) the day before had absolutely nothing to do with our decision to travel nearly 200 miles to watch them play.

We chose Jess for a number of reasons. She’s a leader and someone I admire as a footballer and as a human being very much indeed. If I had half her leadership skills, Tom’s would be much the better for it. She also lives and works locally and pops in from time to time for a responsible pint of Shimmy cider.

Many of you know I write match reports for The Railwaymen Review. This will hopefully persuade some of you to get up to Shavington in the next few weeks and cheer the girls on. I promise you it really makes a difference to them. £3 doesn’t get you much these days but it will get you into the Alex Soccer Centre in Shavington.

Lastly, I wanted to draw your attention to a bit of a coup. It’s something a bit different and what I hope will be first in a series of “Tom’s Talks” (think Ted Talks but with beer – thanks Louise). Esteemed author and historian Clare Mulley is coming to talk about Agent Zo . It’s a fascinating story, honestly if she was a bloke they’d have made a biopic of her story by now.

As ever, keep an eye on our socials or our mailer that Martin puts out regularly and we hope to see you at Tom’s soon.
